The word addiction has such a negative connotation. We view it associated with such negative substances. On average, when you hear the word addiction, we automatically assume one is referring to the misuse of alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, or even food. Rarely is this one word linked to things the bible encourages us to pursue. I’ve never once heard anyone say, I’m addicted to righteousness. I’m addicted to love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, (Galatians 5:22-23) Instead and sadly, I meet more and more people who have fallen victim to the deceits and lies of the enemy and their addictions are in things of the dark world.
As believers we need to become addicted to the fruits of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). We need to be so addicted to the Word of God, that when the tempter comes, the Word of God is in complete control of our lives. Psalm 119:11 says, “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. The word addiction is not the issue, the issue is what you are addicted to. While we become subject to addictions that destroy us. We must seek those addictions that will build us up. Such habits that the delight the Lord and will guarantee to build you up: are prayer, worship, and fellowship. Yes, God did not intend for us to be alone (that is such an evil trick of the enemy). Colossians 3:16 – says Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

So, with this new revelation begin to seek God for NEW ADDICTIONS. For, if the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” John 8:36

Awesome perspective! What type of world would this be if every believer got addicted to the fruits of the Spirit. This post, like the others, is a blessing to me.
